Coming through big time with the first save of the CFCL season is the DoorMatts. You may recall a while back I asked you guys to think of someone, anyone that could serve as the Ruffins proxy.
Matt asked one of his sons, Mike, if he would help us out. Mike agreed. First of all, Mike's a great guy. But there may be a bigger vision on his part. He's always been interested in one day joining the league as an owner. Currently in college, the time has never worked out well to make that happen.
But should we decide to expand to eleven or twelve teams next year, we would have already had exposure to one of the candidates.
Thanks Matt (and Mike)!!

Yay for Mike!
One question about Mike though - is he Matt's Cub fan son or Matt's White Sox fan son? How does that happen, anyway?

Sadly, the one flaw in all of this is that Mike is the Sox fan son. However, I can personally attest (having talked with Mike at length on many different occasions) that he is not the typical obnoxious Sox fan (lord knows we don't have any obnoxious Cub fans out there). He is a passionate, passionate baseball fan. Just so happens that his preferred team of choice won a World Series four years ago.
When I talked with Mike a few days ago to thank him for helping us and give him the overview of what he'll be doing on Draft Day, etc. I was blown away by his excitement of sitting in on the CFCL Draft. He has wanted to join the league for a few years, but silly things like high school and college studies have gotten in the way.
I left a message for the DoorMatts after I spoke with Mike and pointed out that I knew I had heard a conversation similar to the one I had with Mike. It hit me as Mike and I were getting off the phone. Mike was speaking with the passion for baseball that Bill Walton speaks with for basketball, John Wooden, the Grateful Dead and life. But Mike doesn't have the striking resemblance to Bullwinkle.
We are very fortunate to have Mike sitting in with us.
