Dateline Chicago Tribune 1/28/09 -
The obligatory Cubs article today featured Alfonso Soriano and the fact that suddenly he is willing to bat anywhere in the lineup (this smacks so much of Sosa/Baker it's disgusting). The article points out Soriano's accomplishments in the leadoff position for Washington the year before he joined the Cubs. 40+ homeruns, SBs, Doubles made for some promising expectations at Wrigley.
Since then Soriano has not played a full season and put up severly reduced numbers. He now claims his legs are healthy but when asked if he could get back to the 40+ bases he stole a few years ago his response, in part, was "Oh man, that was a while ago. Now pitchers have slide steps, I don't know how many."
Huh? The slidestep was invented in the last two years? THAT'S going to prevent him from stealing?
I've heard on the MLB channel and other places that the Cubs are the favorite to win the World Series this year. Here's just one reason why I don't see it.

Careful Rich. If Soriano reads this he might take a swing at you.
Of course he takes a swing at EVERYTHING.
And you don't have to worry...he'll miss.

Excellent point, thanks for the warning. Of course if he were about to hit me I could always slide step to the right. Apparently that would confuse the hell out of him.
