Monday Greg Maddux will officially announce his retirement. He heads into his new life (post active player, pre-Hall of Famer) with some notable achievements.
He has 355 wins - most of any living pitcher and 8th on the all-time list.
He has 3371 strikeouts - 10th on the all-time list. Not bad for a guy that had to always rely on location.
He has 999 bases on balls - 6th on the all-time list.
Perhaps the most amazing feat is not his four consecutive Cy Young Awards, nor his 18 (out of 19 years) Gold Gloves, nor his 17 straight years of 15 wins or more. No I think it's that he is only the second pitcher in the history of the game to finish his career with more than 3000 strikeouts and less than 1000 walks.
Quick, easy trivia - Who is the other pitcher?
Considering that San Diego's bullpen blew at least, at least 10 wins for Maddux over the last two years, it's amazing to think that Greg could have finished easily in 5th in wins all-time and it's not a stretch to say he could have finished 3rd.
An amazing, down to earth guy that baseball needs more of.
Congratulations on a great career, Greg.

Look at that - not only can Bob (AKA - Kid Dynamite) sit with Moneymaker, Hellmuth and Brunson, he's also a baseball trivia savant. Well done, Bob!
