Afternoon Fellow Owners -
Usually around this time of the year David will post something about the pennant race and things to keep an eye on.
With his hellacious schedule of Little League, Den Mothering, family and that thing called work, he hasn't had a chance to post it.
Ironic because this year there isn't as much to keep an eye on. If we look at the Race For The Money we see:
The Stones are safely (IMO) entrenched in first place. Logically they could gain one point and lose as many as three, but with a 12.5 point lead, the trophy will once again sit atop the Stones mantle.
The Red Hots, currently second, have a chance to gain 2 points and lose one. With a 6.5 point lead on the Matts, the Hots have secured 2nd place money.
The DoorMatts, currently third, have a chance to gain one point which won't get them second place, but could ensure third for the second time in their franchise history (the first being the year they drafted Albert Pujols for .03).
The Ruffins currently fourth can lose two points and gain one.
The Bulls are 3.5 points away from moving into the money. They have a chance to gain three points and lose two. If the Ruffins dropped two and the Bulls gained three, the Bulls would walk away with the cash and the Ruffins will be picking first next year.
While there are a few categories that mean the difference in the standings, the most interesting are Holds/Saves and WHIP.
The Ruffins and Hots are deadlocked in Holds/Saves.
In WHIP all five teams can either gain or lose points.
As far as the CFCL Season records go, there's only one record that is in jeopardy of falling. The Rebels need two saves/holds in the last five days to pass the Copperfields' record of 165.
All other records are pretty safe.
On a separate note - it's time to start thinking about the banquet. With the Cubs in the playoffs, I could see the logic in trying to get together to watch a Cubs game while handing out the awards (assuming all that stuff can get pulled together that quickly).
But then I can also see that with the Cubs being in the post-season you may want to watch the games in the seclusion of your TV room so you can concentrate on every pitch (ok, Mike C - not necessarily you since the Reds stopped playing back in July) but the rest of us may want to focus on the games.
So either here or in e-mail to David and/or me, let us know your availability and preference for the date of the banquet.
Good luck to those that have something to fight for the last five days of the season!
