With the Cubs no where near a World Championship for the 97th year in a row, I thought this piece of information was amusing/depressing.
Thomas Jefferson died in 1826. Eighty-two years later the Cubs win their last World Series.
Ninety-seven years after that we are sitting here waiting for a Cubs World Championship. Which means that the 3rd President of our United States was closer to seeing the Cubs in a World Series than we are.

I was investigating something for Rich in the Forum, and ended up taking a stroll down memory lane. I came across this tidbit and didn't recall reading it 6 years ago when Rich posted it.
Sad to say, it's still true. And in fact, since John Adams died within just hours of Jefferson (as famously commemorated in a West Wing episode), you can also say the 2nd President of the United States was closer to seing the Cubs win a World Series than we are. It makes it sound even more pathetic.
And if the Cubs don't win it all soon (like, within the next 6 years), we'll be able to say the same thing about George Washinton. Wow.

Hey howdy firmer commissioner Dave. How you been man? What do you think of the new brain trust? I like the moves they've made so far, especially the Rizzo deal.
