I'll pose a trivia question at the end, but this post was more to point out something I find amazing.
We know that Babe Ruth hit 714 homeruns which was surpassed by Aaron. Did you know that Ruth became the Career Home Run Leader in 1921? And since the current Career Home Run Leader is Aaron (hopefully not to be passed by Baroid Bonds) that means that since 1921 there have only been two Career Leaders.
Any guess who Ruth surpassed as Career Leader?

He also had the first grand-slam in big-league history.

Any guess who Ruth surpassed as Career Leader? Ned Williamson. Believe it or not, I answered that without purposefully looking it up. I say "purposefully" because I just happened to stumble across the fact today in an article. It's a facinating article - a timeline/history of baseball statistics by Alan Simpson, whose book "The Numbers Game", I've been dying to read. Here's a link to the article: sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=schwarz_alan&id=1835745David

Ok, this is wrong. I just went back to the article and discovered that Ruth had broken Williamson's single-season record for HR (27), not his career mark. My mistake. But still read the article - very interesting. David

"Ned Williamson"
Sadly, this is incorrect. The question was/is "Who did Ruth surpass as the CAREER homerun leaders?"
Williamson held the SINGLE SEASON record of 27.
And as I write this I notice that David noticed the discrepancy (god technology is amazing).
Who was the Career Leader (with 138) prior to Ruth surpassing him?

Quite "Frankly", he has the same last name of a former Cubs that everyone could really chuck the ball. In fact they used to say "he had a rifle, man!" when speaking of him.! Oh hold on, I am being told bye walkie talkie that his name wasn't Frank..."Roger" that over and out!
Now off the record, I have known the answer forever to this question because I once wrote a paper on the Babe. I wish I still had that, it would have been fun to read again!
