Here's my contribution, although I have to admit I stole it from listening to the radio today.
Since 1945, how many ballplayers have been elected to the Hall of Fame that have not played in a World Series?

Ooo - good question.
I can think of at least three. Uh-oh, don't tell me this is one of those questions where they're all Cubs...
I'll ponder some more and come back.

Ok, here are the three I came up with:
- Ernie Banks - Billy Williams - Fergie Jenkins
If the voters would ever get their act together, you could also add Ron Santo and Ryne Sandberg (notice a pattern here?).
I will continue to think about this. Maybe someone else can add other name to my list of three. Or is that all of them?

Yo Rich, what's the answer to this one? I don't think anybody else is going to add to my list of three, and I don't want to resort to looking them up...

OK, good point.
The correct answer is 10. Keep in mind I asked how many (not necessarily who) Hall of Famers never played in a World Series?
Some of them are (as David mentioned)
Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins, Ernie Banks
Additionally - Rod Carew.
I don't know the others but it might be fun to brainstorm together.

So finally I have the answer. Turns out not only did I ask the question, but I gave the wrong answer. Serves me right for trusting what I hear on the radio.
The original question was "How many players, since 1945, have been elected to the Hall of Fame without appearing in a World Series?" I thought the answer was 10.
The answer is ten, but ten in the history of the Hall of Fame, not just since 1945. Although, to be fair, we're only adding nine more years, since the Hall first enshrined Cobb, Ruth, Mathewson, Johnson and Wagner in 1936.
So the ten players in question are:
Fergie Jenkins Ernie Banks Billy Williams Ralph Kiner Ted Lyons Luke Appling Harry Heilmann Willie Keeler Nap Lajoie George Sisler
but not Rod Carew as I mentioned.
These answers come to us via the Hall of Fame. I e-mailed them the question and someone there took the time to e-mail me back stating that they had printed out the list and on that list indicated who had never played in a World Series. The list came to me via snail mail, if you can believe it. Customer service is still alive and well.
An interesting and potentially sad note of the trivia is that only ten players have been elected without appearing in a Series. Not good news for Ryne Sandberg. However, of the ten, six are former Chicago players. So . . .

Thanks for following up and tracking down the answer to this, Rich. That's pretty cool that the HOF would take the time to respond. I wonder if they had to research the answer or were able to whip it off the top of their head(s)? How would that be for an awesome job - working in the HOF researching and responding to trivia questions from geeky fans like us? I'm sure it would pay very well...
