Ok, has anyone tried either of the Subway sandwiches?
Dusty Baker's "Northsider" Combines pepperoni, ham, red onions, lettuce, tomatoes, spicy brown mustard and a hint of mayonnaise.
Ozzie Guillen's "Southsider" A heartier pile of roast beef, turkey, bacon, Swiss cheese, onions, green peppers, tomatoes and a slathering of Ranch dressing.
Apparently, the Southsider is outselling the Northsider by a 5-to-1 margin. I haven't tried either, though if I did it would probably be the Northsider. I don't think that's a partisan pick at all - I'm not a big fan of roast beef as a deli meat, and I'd prefer Dusty's spicy brown mustard to Ozzie's "slathering" of ranch. Pluls, given the choice I'd usually opt for the Northsider's red onions over the white ones on the Southsider.
On the other hand, take the roast beef off the Southsider and tone down the ranch, and you might have a winner - a big thubms up for Swiss cheese and green peppers.
Dusty's combo seems like it would be healthier than Ozzie's, though the Southsider is probably more Atkins-friendly if you're into that kind of thing - has anyone seen nutritional stats on these?
David, who can't believe he just wrote this much about a couple of sandwiches...
Is it lunchtime yet?

If you ask me, the Guillen looks a lot like a confused Philly Cheesesteak, which would be par for the course for the Chicago White Flags, errr Sox. Sure, I'm cynical by nature, but I bet I could walk into the Subway on the square here in Flowertown and purchase one or the other of these two selections with one being labeled 'The Hoosier' and the other as 'The Boilermaker'. Still, go Northside!

I think I will stick to Quizno's if you don't mind! Speaking of Quizno's, see ya! True, Quizno's makes a tastier sub than Subway, but for me the King of Subs is still Mr. Sub. Dave Holian and Rich may be the only ones who have been around long enough to remember this, but Mr. Sub used to be the'official' sandwich of the CFCL Front Office. ~~key dreamy, reminiscing mood music~~ The Mr Sub in the Loop used to be a frequent meeting place for the Co-Commissioners in their college days, the Fullerton location supplied sustenenace after Four Guys Standing Around Singing shows, and, of course, for 3-4 years there was the Draft Day Eve tradition of meeting at Mr Sub around 9:00 PM for a pre-draft pow-wow. Ah, the good old days... ~~cut dreamy, reminiscing mood music, snap back to present~~ Dang, those were good ... and I assume they still are. Based on the menu at www.mrsubchicago.com/menu.php, the selection is still the same, and they're still a bargain price-wise. Unfortunately (or fortunately, for my wasitline's sake) they're not terribly convenient to my home/work locations.
