This isn't really baseball related, but worthy of a posting. I learned with great sadness this afternoon of the passing of Ray Charles. The words National Treasure are too often overused (as are superstar and best of all time) but in the case of Ray Charles the description is apt.
His stirring renditions of Georgia On My Mind, America the Beautiful, Hide Nor Hair and even Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer changed the way I listen to music.
If any of us think we are having a rough go of it, think of Brother Ray. Born in poverty, blinded as a child and lost both parents by age 15. Yet he managed to hear the music in his bones, cultivate it and share it with a country in a way that has never been matched. Everytime he took the stage he gave us his energy, his humor and his immense talent.
We lost an icon this afternoon.
"God done shed his grace on thee . . ."
