We're considering requiring all owners to enter their own roster moves at the Sportsline website.
Of all the changes we're thinking about, this one is probably the closest to being a "done deal". This would obviously save a considerable chunk of time for the League Secretary just from the standpoint of the effort required to enter in a league-worth of transactions each week. Beyond that, though, there would be other benefits -- owners would be able to play around with their roster, trying different configurations, etc., before hitting "submit." There would also be instant feedback on whether the set of transactions being submitted is valid from the standpoint of number of players, position distribution, salary cap, etc. That means 1) I won't necessarily have to check everything and try to chase people down to get a corrected set of moves, and 2) you won't miss out on having moves made because you accidentally ended up with 2 active shortstops.
There are some drawbacks, though. Specifically - Sportsline cannot check roster moves for violations of ALL our rules. Things like whether a player is eligible for a mid-week move or the requirements involved with asterisk players, long-term contract players, M-contract players, etc. This was one of the main reasons we haven't allowed owner-entry of transactions to this point - we have too many customized rules, and it actually would have meant MORE work for the Secretary to check for violations and get them fixed.
One way of handling this conflict would be to change or eliminate the rules that cannot be monitored by Sportsline. A few of the changes we're considering are being done, in part, to accommodate self-entry of transactions (though I don't think that's the sole reason for any of them).
Along with owners entering their own moves, we’re also thinking about using FAAB at Sportsline, which will be discussed in a different thread.
