The first reason for the suggestion is that it's been a never-ending headache to deal with the whole "what qualifies as an 'official' move" discussion. Despite there being a very detailed explanation of what qualifies in the Constitution, there always seemed to be teams who wanted to debate it. The second reason is that it would ease the move to owner-entry of transactions. Removing mid-week moves would eliminate one of those things that would require oversight from a league official if owners were making their own moves. We wouldn’t have to worry about whether a player qualified for a mid-week move. Obviously, we'd be missing out on the ability to immediately reserve a DLed player and so might play with an unproductive roster spot for a few days. Or we'd have to watch recently-activated players acrue stats on our Reserve List while waiting for the transaction date to arrive. To ease that transition, I suggested that we actually have multiple transaction dates per week. This will be discussed in a separate thread.
Note that trades could still be made effective any day of the week.

I too would be in favor of eliminating midweek moves in exchange to multiple moves during the week.
