I think we're addressing two issues.
1) The Death To The King Hymn by Nick proves there is grain alcohol available in South Dakota or Wyoming or where ever McFadden Fieldhouse has been relocated to.
2) I meant to ask this before: What the hell is 733t, w00t and n00b?
Steve, thank ou for thinking I'm dweebish enough to know. I'm honored. But I don't think I've earned my stripes yet.

Hey Steve -
BTW, I admire your effort to prove to the new guys that we aren't a bunch of geeks, but we're attracting them to a league that has been around for 25 years with grown men sitting in a room on a nice spring day trying to figure out if Jesus Figeroa is worth .02.
I think the ship has pretty much sailed on the Geek Quotient.

I swear to God... Jesus Figeroa had better be a made-up name. I'm still wondering about McBiddle, and now I'm worried that there are TWO guys out there that I should know but have never heard of...

This is one that is so easy it's hard. Anyone want to help David out on Jesus Figeroa?

Jesus?? He's pretty good for Saves, right?

Oh come on, Rich. You can't lob this stuff out there like Kirk Reuter and not expect me to go all Ryan Howard on it.

...I'm still wondering about McBiddle... HA! You'll never be any good at fantasy baseball, David. It's McBibble, not McBiddle. McBiddle is some real-life Crash Davis wannabe. Duh. hopefully the rookies will take a gander at David's storied CFCL career just to see how ludicrous that statement really is.

Actually I had the spelling wrong.
Jesus Figueroa.
BTW, Kirk Reuter was a staple for the Rebel starting rotation which no doubt explains the out-of-the-money finishes for the better part of the '90s.

I, too, recognize the incredible appeal of a $.01 Kirk Reuter. Bad trades aren't the only thing that have made the Picts the proverbial clowns of the CFCL. Well, at least the ones who lack candy coloration.

I think the ship has pretty much sailed on the Geek Quotient. After reading further posts in this thread let me add the following: Ship, I would like to introduce you to my friend Sailed! Ugh! By the way I have this little known Jesus guy is slated to be the Stone's personal savior this coming season.

You can Wikipedia the other two. 3) To bring Steve into my childishness, I thought Jesus was your personal landscaping savior this year dude. 4) Dave, if you though Mr. Figueroa was a deep sleeper, just wait until I drop some bombs like Taka Tanaka, Joe Riggins, Gus Sinski and Archibald Graham on you in a couple of weeks. ;D Mahalo Matt

Ok, steering this conversation back to the matter at hand, I think a hybrid of Nick's symbols and Matt's letters might be the best approach. A move to all symbols does provide the cleanest break from our current paradigm, but then we're simply replacing the hard-to-understand letters with even harder-to-understand symbols (the letters at least have a sequential progression, which the symbols wouldn't). I think it makes sense to keep letters where the letters actually make sense. Specifically: - M - minor league player. When promoted, this designation would be removed and replaced by they year his contract will be up for renewal
- S - free agent acquired in September. Player will be automatically released at the end of the season and is not HTD-eligible
- X - player is currently on an Xtra year contract
For special situations, we could stick with our two current designators: - * - free agent signed for .25 or more. Player must be kept the following Roster Freeze Day or buyout penalty will be assessed. If kept, this goes away the following Draft Day.
- ^ - M-contract player who was kept on Reserve on DDay and subsequently made his NL team's Opening Day roster. Player cannot be activated or traded before July 1
Then we'd just need to add two new symbols, which are hopefully intuitive: - + - player is X-contract eligible. When an M-contract player is promoted, he'd receive this symbol indicating he can be signed to an X contract in the year noted.
- ! - contract is guaranteed. Player cannot be released during the season, a buyout penalty will be assessed if not kept on Roster Freeze Day.
I think those pretty much cover all situations. If there is no letter or symbol following the year, then the player is eligible for a long-term contract extention at the beginning of the year noted. If it's after Draft Day in the year noted, this would mean the player is in the final year of his contract, will be automatically released at the end of that season, and is HTD-eligible as long as he doesn't have an "S" designator. I'll try pulling together a sample roster to see how this would look.

I got no beef with that. Whatever it is that facilitates secretary-ing is pretty-much alright by me.
