I've been toying with the idea of finally registering a domain name for the CFCL Internet Headquarters. This would make the site easier to access than typing in the whole "members.aol.com/dmahlan/index.html" string, and would also mean the address would stay the same if we ever move off dial-up at home and leave AOL (assuming the new provider offers free web hosting - if not, then the whole site will probably go away). Unfortunately, all the easy domain names are already taken (cfcl.com, cfcl.org, cfcl.net, etc), so I'd need to pick something a little more complex... What would be an intuitive URL for our site? Here are some ideas, but feel free to toss out others: - cfclhq.com
- cfclball.com
- cubfcl.com
- cfclroto.com
- cfclhome.com
- mycfcl.com
- thecfcl.com
- cubfanclubleague.com
I'd only want to do this if it makes remembering the site name easier and intuitive. Let me know what you think. Also, would you be willing to increase the league fees by a dollar per team to cover the annual registration fee? David

I'd vote for cfclhq.com personally.
I'd be willing for an increase in the league fees by a dollar to cover the registration fee.
As far as it being easier to "type" in, that's not an issue as I have it bookmarked and go there to access the site.

I'd vote cfclhq.com as well although I have keyword bookmarks set for all of my frequently visited sites. I don't think I've typed members.aol.com/blahblahblah for years.
I'd also offer DNS registration. I've got an existing account with directNIC and would just add the domain to my list of names. The cost is negligible and I can set it up such that you're the owner contact for the domain. I will also have my personal web server up and running at some point this summer and you could park the site on that gratis when it comes together.

While everything that Nick typed in computereze may make further responses moot (or more necessary - I can't make heads or tails of the computer world) here's my response.
I also have the website bookmarked so I don't type in the url address either.
As for a domain name, I see the logic in cfclhq.com, but when I answer David's original question "What says "CFCL to you?" and I look at his options I see two that call to me.
thecfcl.com cubfanclubleague.com
Of course if we want to really capture the essence of the league we should consider:
copperfieldsalmostalwayschampions.com
twentyfouryearsandcounting.com
viledespicablescumnotwanted.com (this one is narrowcasting for David)
cubsrockbutweacceptthosewhatdoyoucallitohyeahsoxfans.com
weevenhadsomeonefallasleepatourdraft.com (we may want to rethink that one since it doesn't put our league in the best light).

All great suggestions Rich, though in the interests of keeping it simple, how about cfcl.xxx instead? I know chicks and fantasy geeks love the longball. Mahalo Matt PS. I did a quick search and CFCL.edu does not exist. That would be an appropo URL since I'll be taking all y'all to school in a couple of weeks.

The edu TLD is tightly controlled. Good luck getting something from them without credentials...
It's a shame we didn't jump on the Chilean TLD and get cf.cl but that's already taken by some winery. Besides, I doubt they have open registration for international sites. No one seems to allow that sort of thing since the goatse.cx fiasco anyway. I don't believe there is an .fcl TLD yet.
All in all, I'd prefer any one of Rich's suggestions. Silly is always better in my book. After all, look at my roster!
See y'all in a few weeks. Eli is coming!

Love the Three Dog Night reference! Trivia time - what outstanding though short-lived 90s sitcom featured a milestone episode named "Eli's Coming"?

Sports Night.
Google...is there anything you can't do?
Btw, I like cfclhq.com too.
