Quick question...
Clemens is a free agent in the majors, right? So he is not eligible during the auction, but *is* eligible during the draft?
And of course, all of this is moot if Paul holds onto him.

I know I'm the new owner but I've spent a lot of time going over the constitution the last couple of weeks and based on my understanding Clemens cannot be kept unless he is on a team. Is that not correct? It states major league players can be kept........is Clemens a major league player if not on any team? It states "players on American League rosters, Disabled Lists, or Farm teams MUST be placed on a team's reserve list" and it states "their salaries DO count against the teams $2.60". Clemens doesn't seem to fit this definition..........How will he be handled now that it was brought up bykennen..........I mean kenndoza

Paul does have the option of keeping Clemens, but he must be placed on his Reserve List prior to the draft, he does count as one of Paul's 15 keepers, and his salary does count against Pauls $2.60 spending limit.
Only players on National League major league rosters can be put on the active roster for the Draft, but the only restriction on who can be kept on the Reserve List is that it can't be a player on an NL active roster (so in that sense, the bit Bob quoted about AL rosters and disabled lists, etc., is probably needlessly specific). Whether the player counts as one of the 15 keepers and whether his salary counts depends on his contract status.
So to answer the original question, Kenn is correct -- if Paul releases Clemens, he cannot be bid on during the auction, but can be selected in the Rotation Draft.
