I came across this in a thread on RotoJunkie (yes, I'm not getting a whole lot of work done today at the office):
What makes a league competitive is wide topic to discuss.
Now what makes a league enjoyable to me is a little easier fro me to get my arms around.
I like a league where each owner competes from beginning to end.
Here are a couple ideas which I think make this have a better chance of occurring . . .
1. There is a small monetary price for each roto category winner.
2. There is a prize of monetary value for the owner whose team shows the most improvement from pre all star break to post all star break.
These two things can keep even a bad or unlucky owner interested to the very end of the season, and can also make for some interesting managerial strategies coming down the stretch.
Not that the CFCL doesn't have contingencies in place to guard against dumping and apathy—or that this is even a pressing problem, but I found the idea of awarding some nominal cash prize for winning various sub-contests to be interesting. I don't recall the topic coming up back in the day when we discussed anti-dumping strategies so thought I'd offer it as something to ruminate on over the course of this season.
