Yesterday I was looking through Baseball-Reference.com at the statistics of the 1984 Cubs (because what better way is there to spend a Saturday afternoon?) and noticed this interesting tidbit.
Lee Smith was the Stud Closer for the Cubs that year. He registered 33 saves that year (quite a bit for relievers at the time).
But . . . Did You Know that Smith's 33 saves represented on 66% of the saves the Cubs recorded that year?
A full one-third (17%) of the team's 50 saves were recorded by Tim Stoddard, Warren Brusstar, George Frazier and the all important, Rich Bordi.
