Is it just me or there ALOT more talent available to the newbies than there was back in Y2K when me, Steve & Nick joined up? Maybe my mind is slipping but I think Moises Alou was the highlight of my draft. Oh man, I nearly birthed a kitty when I was able to secure John Rocker as the first ever Pict. His career, of course, at the height of its pre-meltdown stage. The only other player that stands out somewhat is Alex Ochoa. I was pretty sure that given enough playing time he could turn out to be a steal. The first of many incorrect inferences in Pictii history.

Maybe my mind is slipping but I think Moises Alou was the highlight of my draft. I can't say for sure because I'm getting error messages for the 2000-2002 season histories & news pages. It's saying they're inactive. Wow, that was interesting. The history pages were shut down by Geocities because they hadn't be accessed for so long. They're back up now ... from members.aol.com/dmahlan/index.html, click History, then Draft Histories, then 2000 Expansion for the details on that expansion draft.

Ah, they're back. The first thing I noticed was a news item stating that rosters would be reduced from 27 to the current 23 active players. So immediately the question in my mind became, what 4 positions were eliminated when the CFCL expanded to 12 teams? Also, were rosters even bigger when you only had 8 teams?
If I had to make a guess, I'd say you dropped 1 pitcher, 1 outfielder, 1 infielder (including C) and another SW.
OK, getting back to point. I hope Bruce & Harry can forgive me for taking credit for drafting Moises. I guess he didn't make to my roster until later years. By far my best pick in the draft was the 6 fingered wonder, Antonio Alfonseca. I guess my first pick, one of the Alex Gonzalez boys wasn't too bad. While there is no Big Unit available this year, there's alot of really good pitching in the pool and a couple of cornerstone hitters. So I guess my memory isn't completely faulty after all, the 2008 player pools seems to me to be better and deeper than the previous mass entrance into the league. Mahalo

Another lavish CFCL Banquet is in the books. Three current owners and two now former ones braved the elements to celebrate the 2007 season and post season awards.
Among many of the goodies that David always has for us, I was looking over the history of the CFCL. Not since entering the 1991 season has the CFCL had fewer owners than the year before.
With three owners stepping away, we face a big challenge in replacing them, not only in number but also in quality. David has postings out on two high quality Fantasy Message Boards, but that may not be enough. Let's dig deep and find three new owners to join us at the draft table next year. Let David or me know of anyone you feel may be interested in being a part of the CFCL.
Happy Holidays to all!
