Good afternoon y'all, What do you guys make of the trade today? In case you didn't hear, the Reds traded Austin Kearns, Felipe Lopez and Ryan Wagner. The Nationals only had to give up Gary Majewski, Bill Bray, Brendan Harris, Royce Clayton and minor league RHP Daryl Thompson. I really don't understand why the Reds made this deal. They gave up the two best players in the deal in exchange for an over the hill SS and a couple of relief pitchers. My God, I'd hate to think that Hendry could have made this deal with essentially the same caliber components. Novoa, Eyre, Neifi Perez, Cedeno and Rocky Cherry could have been the Cub equivalents. Personally, the deal opens up a spot for Chris Denorfia so I'm fine with it. BTW, it's nice to see some trading action finally, both in real life and the CFCL. I wonder if all the trades will be similar with no blockbusters. Mahalo Matt

The Reds trade looks like a classic dump trade to me. The weird thing is, the Nationals should have been dumping to the Reds. Not that the Reds need Soriano or anything, but you'd think they would be buyers right now as they're still very much in the wild card race (as well as the division).
Still, here in the Queen City, a lot of the talk in the last month is about how awful the bullpen has been. They're right of course, but I'm not sure guys like Majewski and Guardado (from last week) are the answer. They're desperate I guess, and I think they think Bray will be a real gem for them.
Also this trade upgrades Cincinnati's defense as Clayton is much better than Lopez at short. That's a pretty weak argument though to trade Lopez for Clayton as Lopez's offense is much better than Clayton's.
Overall a very strange trade.
As for the CFCL trades, this could be a great pennant race. I'm nervously checking this page every day to see what I have to compete with...

I think the trade is indefensible. I don't remember where I read the quote, but the trade was said to be the worst decision in Cincinnati since WKRP's "Turkey Drop" fiasco.
I would love to hear the spin the trade is getting in Cincinnati.

"As God is my witness, I thought Bill Bray could close."

Now hold on a moment! I will give you points for paraphrasing one of the top five sitcom quotes in television history, but let's not go out of our way to disparage the bullpen of Dem Rebels. That's about the only area of the team that is keeping us in the 20 point range rather than lower teens.
Besides, you just watch. Majewski and Bray will lead the Reds to a down-to-the-wire race with the Cardinals.

LOL What a great parting shot before his leave of absence.
