Bloomington, Ind (AP)- Locked into protracted stadium and revenue sharing negotiations with the City of Bloomington and Indiana University, Nick's Picts have opted to go in a surprising new direction. Attracted by the low land costs, favorable tax breaks from LB 775, and the converging sprawl of Lincoln and Omaha, the Picts are picking up stakes and moving their operations to Ashland, Nebraska.
As if that weren't enough rebuke to their Indiana fan base, the Picts have stated that they will begin playing their home games in Rosenblatt Stadium beginning with the July 6th homestand opener against Dem Rebels.
Picts general manager, Nick Hansen, anticipates that the new stadium just outside Ashland should be complete for openning day 2007. The as yet unnamed stadium promises better revenue streams and will feature a retractable roof. In a press release issued Monday Hansen said, "A retractable roof will allow us to play through the entire gamut of summer weather in Nebraska and it will make one helluva tornado shelter too."
He also said the new stadium will be home to the Fershlugginer Potrzebies, Nebraska's 43-Man Squamish team.
More news on this development as it breaks.

I would like to wish Nick and the Picts well in the land of Oz (I know, Oz was in Kansas, but isn't it all the same from the Mississippi to the Rockies?
And I would like to thank Nick for the notice since my team schedule still had us playing in Indy on July 6th. No doubt the Rebels would have shown up at McFadden Fieldhouse and not in Rosenblatt Stadium and lost the game by forfeit.
We welcome the challenge of playing the Picts in their temporary new digs among all the Flannel-hatin' fans.

Congrats on the move Nick. I'm assuming there's also going to be a Key to the City ceremony in the near future as well. Plus, like Kenny, you can organize a road trip to, um, er, ah. Do they have stadiums in Nebraska not devoted to football? Maybe you can show us how corn fields in NE are completely different from their distant cousins in IL .... Mahalo Matt

If you want to see the one AAA team that would probably take a seven game series from their major league affiliate, we've got the Omaha Royals!
If that doesn't grab you, the College World Series might though we'll have to wait until 2007 to give that a try.
