I paid an exorbitant 141 for my five outfielders and they have been a major disappointment...or have they?

I decided to look at everyone's draft-day starting five OF and figured out the YTD stats for each.

It's early in the season and of course Ryan Klesko, Mike Cameron, and Larry Bigbie haven't even played yet (but are figured in the numbers below), so this may be meaningless, but I was wondering who was getting the best bang for the buck.

Here are the rankings:
Stones (paid 119, 50.5 points from his OF)
Red Hots (105, 43.5)
Splinters (62, 42)
Ruffins (81, 41)
Bulls (48, 37.5)
Lambchops (74, 36.5)
Kenndoza (141, 34.5)
DoorMatts (50, 33)
Copperfields (62, 28)
Meisters (67, 18)
Picts (104, 15)
Rebels (78, 10.5)

The Stones paid the second-most for their outfield, but so far it's paying off as he has the best fivesome in our league. I'm seventh overall despite paying so much for those guys that I'm hamstrung everywhere else.

The Splinters, thanks to their great keeper list, have the third-best outfielders but spent the third-LEAST.

The Picts spent 104 but have gotten pretty-much-nothing from four of their five outfielders (only Randy Winn is coming close to earning his money).

Any other observations? Here's the overall numbers (I apologize if the columns don't line up):

To be fair, I've had Lofton back for < 1 week and since Roberson was sent down post draft day I played the first few weeks with 4 active OF, two of which are part timers (even though Aguila supposedly had the starting LF job on draft day too). Of course, there's no getting around the fact that Green creates a strong vacuum around a large male phallus (take that, censors!). He and the Picts have a bad history so why I ended up with him is a mystery to me as well. I blame it on the fever.

OTOH, I'll go toe to toe with anyone's infield any day of the week.

Very well done. I want to respond in some meaningful way, but a) I don't want to blow my cover as I have no idea how to explain my good fortune, b) as Bob said, I need time to rehash this well written post, c) I am doing the numbers now to see if I can take on Nick with his infield challenge.

Hey no worries. I am guessing that I will be joining you in the lower ranks soon with my pitching stats from tonight so far

Madsen 1.0 IP, 7 H, 9 ER, 4 BB, 1 K

Ohka (so far) 3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 K

So far my ERA is a slight 24.75 and my WHIP is 4.50, and K/BB is a lofty .33. Yehaa!

Did I mention that last night Munter was an excellent 1.0 IP, 3 H, 3 ER 2 BB and 1 K.

The net result is I am a combined 25.2 ERA and 3.00 WHIP.

That's gonna leave a mark!

UPDATE: Can you officially tank a season in one night?

My line is now a hefty 5.0 IP, 15 H, 15 ER, 8 BB, 4 K 25.50 ERA, 4.60 WHIP!

Rich, you won't be lonely for long! Keep the bed warm, cuz I am coming home baby!

Oh dear god! Steve, let me just say that on the best of days keeping the bed warm for you doesn't make for pleasant thoughts.

However on this day when I officially find out that my Stud Who Is a Cub is out for at least two months makes it even less palatable. I guess the only solace I can take in all of this is that by losing The Mighty D. Lee I will fall even further from the pack and I don't have to worry about being anywhere near your nocturnal resting place.

I think a case might be made that my outfield is the best based on cost effectiveness. As a group, they've outproduced most of the league despite costing just under 4 bits. Don't ask me where all that savings went to though. I might have the worst cost effective pitching staff to make up for it.

Granted there's about 90% of the season left and who knows if my guys will keep getting playing time so the picture at the end of the year could look much differently. Mahalo
