I hope no one else came down with what I seem to have picked up some time Saturday / Sunday. By 3:00 Sunday I was barely hanging on, burning up on the inside. By the end of the rotation draft I was halfway to nauseous zombie. By the time I hit Merrillville I had to pull over to make sacrifices to the porcelain gods. All in all, a 4.25 hour trip ended up lasting until 2 in the morning (1am for you CDT folks).
It was such a dark day yesterday that I ended up missing out on roster moves which I will proceed to blame for my poor showing in the standings for the rest of the season. Missing out on Chinchilla's RBIs will kill me no doubt (cf Steve's Opening Day recap).
But I don't post this to curry sympathy. Instead I wanted to say that I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat because it *is* one of the banner days of my year. I had a great time seeing everyone again--well except for the Professor who no longer reminds me of the disembodied voice of Charlie. Seeing him for the first time was, erm, eye opening (I keed, I keed). I guess that also goes for Bob who proved to be an able and quality addition to the League except for when he aced me out of a player or two--at which point I cursed his mother's name. Indeed, y'all should move closer to me so that I could hang out with you more often.
I also wanted to give a big thanks to everyone who voted me into a second term on the EC. Your checks are in the mail. As for those of you who did not--I'll be sending the boys around to "interview" you about how I might be better able to "serve" your interests. Seriously, though, thanks a bunch.
Finally, how 'bout them Cubs? They looks pretty solid yesterday despite Crazy Z's lack of control. Lets hope Pierre keeps getting on base (via errors because the Copperfields don't need any more help), that Lee and Murton continue to pound the ball (because the Rebels and Lambchops do need the help) and that Ramirez stays healthy even though that means the Coppers were justified in dropping 44 big pennies on his salary.
I could natter on but y'all get the point. It is a good time to be alive.
